Artisan lampshade maker since 2008

Artisan Lampshade Maker

Bespoke creation, restoration and upholstery. Every lampshade is entirely handcrafted in our workshop in Cormeilles, Normandy, France.

Illumine is an artisan lampshade maker based at 26 rue de l'Abbaye, in Cormeilles (27260), Normandy, France. Founded in 2008 by Sylvie Lemarchand, a certified Master Artisan and lampshade maker, the workshop designs and produces bespoke lampshades entirely by hand. From the pagoda to the conical shape, from Norman linen to wild silk, every creation is unique. With over 450 pieces completed and delivery to 43 countries, Illumine combines traditional craftsmanship with the exacting standards of bespoke work in the service of exceptional light.

Choosing an artisan lampshade maker means choosing quality and personality. Where industrial production imposes standardised formats, our workshop offers complete freedom: dimensions, shape, fabric, braid, mounting system — everything is tailored to your light fitting and your interior. This bespoke approach produces a lampshade that integrates perfectly into your décor, diffuses light exactly as you wish and stands the test of time thanks to materials selected with the utmost care.

As a Master Artisan, Sylvie Lemarchand has complete mastery of the entire manufacturing process. This title, awarded by the French Chambre de Métiers et de l'Artisanat, attests to a level of excellence in craftsmanship officially recognised by the State. Every lampshade that leaves the workshop bears the signature of an artisan who has dedicated over fifteen years to perfecting her art.

Why choose an artisan maker

A lampshade made for you

An artisan lampshade maker does not work from a catalogue: they listen, advise and create. At Illumine, every project begins with a dialogue with the client. We take into account the desired ambiance, ceiling height, wall colour and furniture style to propose the ideal shape, fabric and finishes. The result is a truly unique piece, designed specifically for your interior.

Exceptional materials

The quality of a lampshade depends first and foremost on its materials. We source our fabrics from the finest French and European houses: wild silks, shantung, Norman linen, fine cottons, as well as rare materials such as pig bladder. Our metal frames are made to measure to guarantee impeccable balance and lasting durability.

Certified craftsmanship

The Master Artisan title, awarded to Sylvie Lemarchand by the Chambre de Métiers, is the highest distinction in the decorative arts in France. It guarantees advanced technical mastery, active transmission of the craft and a commitment to excellence. We also offer workshops to share this ancestral know-how.

Restoration & a second life

An artisan maker does not only create: they also know how to bring old pieces back to life. Recovering, relining, frame repair — our workshop restores your lampshades to give them a new lease of life whilst respecting their original character. It is a sustainable approach that celebrates your lighting heritage.

Our specialities

As an artisan lampshade maker, we master a broad range of shapes and materials, from the most classic to the rarest.

Pagoda

An iconic shape with sweeping curved lines inspired by Asian architecture. Our round, square and scalloped pagodas enhance every light source beautifully.

Conical & Cylinder

The quintessential classic shapes. From the elegant cone to the pure cylinder, every piece is cut to the exact dimensions of your light fitting.

Lyre & Art Deco

Bold silhouettes that reinterpret the elegance of the 1920s. Panelled structures, godrons and striking geometric lines for a statement piece.

Pig Bladder

An ancestral and rare technique of stretching material over a frame. This natural, translucent material diffuses light with an incomparably soft, amber glow.

Wild Silk & Shantung

Hand-woven silks with shimmering, iridescent reflections that bring a unique luminous depth. Each lampshade captures and redistributes light differently.

Norman Linen & Cotton

Natural fabrics selected for their texture and durability. Norman linen, woven locally, embodies our deep regional roots and artisan heritage.

The making process

From the initial consultation to delivery, every step is carried out with care in our workshop.

01

Consultation & Design

Every creation begins with an in-depth conversation. Together, we define the shape, dimensions, fabric and finishes that will enhance your interior.

02

Material Selection

We select each component with exacting standards: bespoke metal frames, premium fabrics from the finest French and European houses, braids and trimmings.

03

Artisan Craftsmanship

Cutting, gluing, laminating, stitching: every step is carried out by hand with precision. No machine can replace the artisan’s eye and hand to achieve a perfect fabric tension.

04

Finishing & Quality Control

Applying the finishing braid, checking the balance, testing light diffusion. Every lampshade is individually inspected before being carefully packaged for delivery.
